Racism And Prejudice By Robert Heilbroner - 982 Words
Everyone in the world is familiar with racism and stereotyping, but many individuals may feel indifferent about those topics and do not wish to speak about them. Robert Heilbroner, the author of ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t Let Stereotypes Warp Your Judgementsâ⬠states that ââ¬Å"Stereotypes are a kind of gossip about the world, a gossip that makes us pre-judge people before we ever lay eyes on themâ⬠(200). Racism has yet to become irrelevant and no matter how hard individuals try to eliminate racism, there will always be a greater majority of individuals who are close minded and desire to continue generalizing every race. Furthermore, Robert Heilbroner also states ââ¬Å"Thus the trouble is that stereotypes make us mentally lazyâ⬠(201). African Americans have to be considered one of the most racially discriminated races in the United States. African Americans face injustices which range from unemployment to death. Although humanity is wired to classify individuals and objects , it is important to understand how the negativity of racial stereotyping affects all aspects of society and how it can be prevented by embracing the differences in race instead of shying away from the topic. Stereotyping should be considered harassment; the fact that racial stereotyping occurs to this day after decades of progress can be considered amongst many, disturbing. Moreover, some companies have a preference about who they hire due to race or cultural background. Many employers will believe a stereotype about a race, ethnic, or

The Sermon on the Mount and its Importance Today - 1571 Words
The Sermon on Mount and its Importance Today Jesus Christ nearly 2,000 years ago gave mankind the most powerful and profound sermon every preached, the Sermon on the Mount. We can find essential parts of this teaching in the Bible. The Sermon on the Mount contains the essence of the teaching of Jesus, how convert Christians are to live and the fundamental statements for a life in accordance with the laws of God, guidelines for our relationship with our fellow men, with the animals, with nature. The one who puts these teachings into practice in his daily life will soon feel that his life is changing, that it is becoming peaceful and positive. In the paper I will focus on three elements of the sermon that I believe are critical forâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The early Christians were commanded to be faithful to doing what they had sworn to do. If they didnââ¬â¢t they could be struck died, like Annais and Sapphira. People were once to be able to count on the oath you made. Today we will sometimes try to sound more convincin g with the words, I promise or I swear but that is often as far as it goes. As children we may have tried at times to make a commitment less binding by crossing our fingers behind our backs. But we still struggle with the idea of making our yes or no suffice. I think some of what is behind this is that we wish to appear as generous, open, and flexible as we can while at the same time keeping a tight hold on what we actually end up doing for others. Sometimes we say maybe instead of yes or no because we think it makes us look more open than we truly are. Unfortunately this often forces the other person to remain suspended in a position of indecision which stifles trust and even prevents cooperation and fellowship. A maybe does not invite trust, confidence or partnership. To have your yes be yes and your no be no, means that there is no slippage between what you say and what you do. You do not appear to be anything else than who you truly are. We affirm our abilities, potentials, and moral priorities with our yesââ¬â¢s and admit our practical and moral limitations with our noââ¬â¢s. What is Judaism according to Heschel Free Essays
According to Rabbi Heschel Judaism was that whenever somebody mentioned the name Judaism, it was like taking about either somebody citing a poem, God the father or someone who lived a spiritual life. Since many people believed that without God everything is impossible, Heschel tried to come out clearly that people need to be strong in faith despite all the difficulties they are going through. He also stressed out that everyone should be able to live peacefully with each other by forgiving one another whenever there is a problem between them. We will write a custom essay sample on What is Judaism according to Heschel? or any similar topic only for you Order Now (Merkel, 1985, p. 2) (Heschel, 1985). The word of God was for everyone no matter what they do, where they come from or whatever language they speak. One way of making people understands the word of God was to write and come out clearly about religious teachings. They were also being taught how to live in harmony and how to confess to one another whenever there is a problem among them. (Merkel, 1985, p. 3) (Heschel, 1985). According to Heschel, Torahââ¬â¢s ways of giving out ideas or explanations about Judaism was like a reflection of what has been happening in our daily lives as it was written in the bible. God the Father also appears as a very bright light to show people that they should believe and have faith in Him all the time. (Merkel, 1985, p. 4) (Heschel, 1985). Heschel join one of the spiritual congregations where he became more spiritual and strong in faith. This attracted very many people as it was a good example of a Jesus follower. It also made many people to listen, understand and believe in the word of God. (Merkel, 1985, p. 5) (Heschel, 1985). Rabbi was so much into Christianity that he could not have time to come together with other people in his congregation. This made the people of his congregation to say that he was over doing the work of Christianity. He also tried to make people have peace, love, and unity and go as far celebrating mass as a sign of commitment to God. . (Merkel, 1985, p. 6) (Heschel, 1985). Everyone was to understand the word of God in the right way and apply in their daily life. This was made to encourage the weak people who were not strong in faith to be able to participate in duties that strengthen their faith. The difficulties that the people of Israel experience on Mount Sinai were a big challenge for them in their life. This is because from there is when man had really believed that God do exist. (Merkel, 1985, p. 7) (Heschel, 1985). He brought the image of God as he appears to Moses on Mount Sinai. This is when Mosesââ¬â¢ people had no faith in God and started worshipping other gods. God became angry and appeared to Moses and gave him the Ten Commandments that could guide and make his people believe and trust in God. The Ten Commandments were written so that everyone should believe that all the writings were truly from Jesus but not Moses. (Merkel, 1985, p. 8) (Heschel, 1985). Moses is also portrayed as good leader because he is seen leading his people from Israel to Misery as per instructions given by God. This is when God appeared to him as burning bush when he was looking after the cattle. By then they had no commandments to follow but they still believed in God as their creator and source of inspiration in their life. (Merkel, 1985, p. 9) (Heschel, 1985). As it is seen in the bible that by the time God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, his people had already lost their faith and started worshipping other gods. This made it very difficult for Moses to make all of them believe in the Ten Commandments given the God. It implies that not all Mosesââ¬â¢ people accepted the Ten Commandments. That, s why there are always new laws every generation. (Merkel, 1985, p. 10) (Heschel, 1985). Though there were some people who disagreed with Moses as he gave them the Ten Commandments, majority believed on the Ten Commandments that made many generations that comes after them to accept and follow the Ten Commandments as it was meant to strengthen peopleââ¬â¢s faith in their daily life. (Merkel, 1985, p. 1) (Heschel, 1985). People should be in a position to understand and believe in Jesusââ¬â¢ signs as it was written in the bible. They need to accept that even though they canââ¬â¢t see some of these things happening now, they had already happened before and their fore fathers believed in them. So itââ¬â¢s a big challenge to them to accept the reality of the past. (Merkel, 1985, p. 12) (Heschel , 1985). As it is written in the bible that when Jesus went to Cana and wine got finished during the wedding, He asked for water and turned it into wine for the people who were in the wedding. And also when there was a lot of wind when he was with James and John in a boat, He stopped the wind. These two signs show that God is always there for his people and He will always present in them wherever they go. (Merkel, 1985, p. 13) (Heschel, 1985). It is good to believe in what you understand best than to believe in what you donââ¬â¢t know. This only comes out when you really accept, believe and have faith in the scriptures of the bible. You should be able to relate the scriptures of the bible into your daily life and try to practice them in your life because this is only way to strengthened your faith. Merkel, 1985, p. 14) (Heschel, 1985). Moses was one of the most prominent leaders that God used to show people the right way of life that will remain a remembrance in life to everyone. These are written in the bible so that everyone can understand whatever happened in the past during the reign of their fore fathers. (Merkel, 1985, p. 15) (Heschel, 1985). It is also important to preach or translate the scriptures of the bible according what was written rather than preaching the things which do not exist to people. This is because whatever is being taught now will remain as a history for the coming generations. They should understand that the scriptures of the bible are holy words from God the father but just a normal human being. (Merkel, 1985, p. 16) (Heschel, 1985). God communicated to his people through the scriptures by sending prophets to perform various signs. This can be seen as he ordered Abraham to sacrifice his only son, appearing to Moses as burning bush, saving his disciple from drowning during the strong wind and raising Larus from death after four days. All these events remain as a history to every generation that comes and it will always be there to guide them in their life. (Merkel, 1985, p. 17) (Heschel, 1985). The covenant between God and Moses on Mount Sinai was a sign of an agreement between the people of Israel and God. It made easier for the people of Israel to communicate to God and adored Him as their only savior. So for the people of Israel to communicate to God they had to understand the scripture, translate it and relate to their daily life. Merkel, 1985, p. 18) (Heschel, 1985). The covenant made on Mount Sinai lead to various activities to be performed by man. This is where man had to obey the holy Sunday, do not kill, do not steal, obey their parents so that you can live longer, believe in God all the time and always standing firm to tell truth. Even the people of Israel went as far as fasting in order to strengthen their faith which remained as history to all the coming generations. (Merkel, 1985, p. 19) (Heschel, 19 85). When Moses received the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, it does not mean it was the end of everything that God had to give his people. It implies that the door was still open for more teachings in the future. This encourages people to believe and trust in God as their only comforter during the trial moments in their lives. (Merkel, 1985, p. 20) (Heschel, 1985). The bible was not written as book to be read but as scripture to guide people in their lives. It was supposed to be read, understand the meaning of the scriptures and translate and then preach the right words of God to the people. This would inspire many people to read the scriptures of the bible and know the reason why Jesus sacrificed to suffer on their behalf. (Merkel, 1985, p. 21) (Heschel, 1985). As seen that it is very easier for the people to live as Godââ¬â¢s people when they both understand the bible very well. Therefore it is good to make people believe in Jesus as their only guidance in life. When you follow the right path that is Godââ¬â¢s foot steps, you will find life interesting and encouraging no matter what difficulties you may be going through. It also makes man become a strong Christian which remains as an example to his forth coming generations. (Merkel, 1985, p. 22) (Heschel, 1985). Jesus loves the world so much that he bled and died for the human kind. So it is the work of the man to be able to follow Godââ¬â¢s commandments in order to fulfill Godââ¬â¢s promises. It does mean that God made it so difficult for the man not to enjoy life but to have good life both in the world and in heaven. That is why Jesus forbids man not to do some of the things in life. It is not a punishment but a lesson to prepare them for both life in the world and the kingdom of God. (Merkel, 1985, p. 23) (Heschel, 1985). Everyone should be able to carry his own cross when it comes to serving God because you will be judged according your own deeds but not on the behalf of someone else. Man must be able to know the scriptures of the bible so that it can able to apply it any time in his or her life. This will also help people to have time worship God because everyone is a position to read and interpret whatever information which is in the bible. Merkel, 1985, p. 24) (Heschel, 1985). Conclusion: Judaism is all about the past events that happened during the reign of the prophets like Moses, Elijah and Abraham. These are the days when God used to communicate to man through prophets. The prophets could see God in visions, signs and symbols then go and communicate to the people according what they have seen in their visions or symbols they had received. They had to exp lain all the details of what God told them. So that is how man communicated to god in older days. How to cite What is Judaism according to Heschel?, Papers

Another strength of mine is knowing my audience. When reading to say an older crowd they probably wouldnââ¬â¢t like a lot of loud sound effects like a fire truck or a police car. When reading to a younger crowd say for example ââ¬Å"the car came to a screeching holtâ⬠making a sound of a car coming to a sudden stop would not be bad at all and It will keep your young listeners entertained.Critical thinking can be a hard concept to grasp because your just not letting your pen or pencil flow freely you have to think and analyze your answer. One of my strengths in critical thinking is to be able to take notes while reading so when it comes to the questions at the end I can tell myself that the answer is in my notes somewhere so I know I should find it. A weakness of mine is that I get lazy and I wont turn back to my notes to actually find the answer I might just fill in whatever I feel is correct. The writing process in my opinion is the most important part of writing without it your paper would probably make no sense and have a lot of mistakes. Strength of mine in the writing process is that I like to plan my writing carefully before just jumping into a paper.A weakness in this area is that I hate the revising and editing portion and I know its something that I need to work on if I want to have a great paper. Another strength is when I write the paper I try to get it exactly how I want it the 1st time so the second time through I just have to add a couple words or periods here or there. Spelling and grammar everyoneââ¬â¢s favorite part of a paper without it nobody would ever understand what you were trying to say.If you leave your paper with a lot of sentence fragments and run-ons nobody will bother to pick up anything you have written. Strength of mine in this area is I typically read over a sentence aloud twice to make sure it makes sense and itââ¬â¢s not a run-on. A weakness of mine is that I am not a very good speller without word and spell check all my teachers would probably look at me like I was crazy and its something that I have got to work on. Another weakness is sometimes I may forget a comma or a period or put a period where a question mark should go and if you give that paper to a newspaper or magazine they will hand it right back to you. Writing has a lot of components and some of the most important ones are rhetorical knowledge, critical thinking, reading and writing; writing processes; and knowledge of conventions. Even though every one has there own strengths and weaknesses you can always get your strengths stronger and your weaknesses stronger also. Your answer: abdominal muscle are utilized in an erv activity 3. What was the FEV1 (%) at the initial radius of 5. 0 mm? Your answer: 74 4. What happened to the FEV1 (%) as the radius of the airways decreased? How well did the results compare with your prediction? Your answer: fec1% decreases the same as the radius of the airway because the radius reduce the flow of air and my answer was correct 5. Explain why the results from the experiment suggest that there is an obstructive, rather than a restrictive, pulmona ry problem.

Satellites Essays - Remote Sensing, Satellite, Unmanned Spacecraft
Satellites Satellites orbit the earth doing our bidding in ways that enrich the lives of almost all of us. Through electronic eyes from hundreds of miles overhead, they lead prospectors to mineral deposits invisble on earth's surface. Relaying communications at the speed of light, they shrink the planet until its most distant people are only a split second apart. They beam world weather to our living room TV and guide ships through storms. Swooping low over areas of possible hostility, spies in the sky maintain a surveillance that helps keep peace in a volatile world. How many objects, exaclty, are orbiting out there? Today's count is 4,914. The satellites begin with a launch, which in the U.S. takes place at Cape Canaveral in Florida, NASA's Wallops Flight Center in Virginia, or, for polar orbiters, Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. One satellite in 20 is crippled by the jolt of lift-off, or dies in the inferno of a def ective rocket blast, or is thrust into improper orbit. A few simply vanish into the immensity of space. When a satellite emerges from the rocket's protective shroud, radiotelemety regularly reports on its health to round-the-clock crews of ground controllers. They watch over the temperatures and voltages of the craft's electronic nervous system and other vital "organs", always critical with machines whose sunward side may be 300 degress hotter than the shaded part. Once a satellite achieves orbit--that delicate condition in which the pull of earth's gravity is matched by the outward fling of the Page 2 ------ crafts speed--subtle pressures make it go astray. Solar flares make the satellite go out of orbit. Wisps of outer atmosphere drag its speed. Like strands of spiderweb, gravity feilds of the earth, moon, and sun tug at the orbiting spacefarer. Even the sunshin e's soft caress exerts a gentle nudge. Should a satellite begin to wander, ground crews fire small fuel jets that steer it back on course. This is done sparingly, for exhaustion of these gases ends a craft's useful career. Under such stresses, many satellites last 2 years. When death is only a second away, controllers may command the craft to jump into a high orbit, so it will move up away from earth, keeping orbital paths from becoming too cluttered. Others become ensnarled in the gravity web; slowly they are drawn into gravitational that serve as space graveyards. A satellite for communications would really be a great antenna tower, hundreds or even thousands of miles above the earth, capable of transmitting messages almost instantaneously across the oceans and continents. Soon after the launch of ATWS-6, "the Teacher in the sky", (a satellite designed to aid people) NASA ground controllers trained its antenna on Appalachia. There is brought evening college classes to schoolteachers whose isolation denied opportunity for advancement. The use of Satellites is growing rapidly and so is the different jobs for them.

Arctic Wildlife SAT Essay
Arctic Wildlife SAT EssayMany students are unfamiliar with sample SAT essay prompts, and that's the exact problem with Jimmy Carter's Arctic Wildlife Test. This essay was written for a North Reading Exam, and although this was probably written by Jimmy Carter as a practice essay, his writing style is still questionable, even with a guide like this one.The reader immediately feels as if he or she is not a native of North Reading, Massachusetts, and more than that, an outsider trying to fit in with the native population. While it is indeed the native population that Carter refers to when speaking of 'our place in the world,' it still feels as if a commoner would have been a better choice of words, as Carter has chosen to speak about the native population as an outsider. The reader is also left feeling as if Carter is trying to be witty and sarcastic, but this is not the way to do it; witty and sarcastic writing comes across as arrogant, and an article such as this would probably be rej ected by colleges as well. His use of the first person, and also his incorrect use of 'we' in the sentence 'The long run', is another thing that detracts from his essay, although it can be fixed easily with one or two paragraphs clarified. The spelling and grammar are clearly off, and although it does appear he tries hard, he leaves a lot to be desired. Even so, there are some good points here and there, and what makes it so funny is the fact that it comes across as the work of a good, average American male, such as we all know he is.In conclusion, Jimmy Carter's Arctic Wildlife is a waste of time, as he tries to write in the same sort of archaic jargon and slang that many of the students who come to read it would likely use. However, for a local history student, this is just another way to make a cheap laugh, as the student could actually learn quite a bit by examining this. A more authentic essay would be a good choice, one that is used in every college, as it contains information that would not only serve the educational purpose but also could bring back fond memories for the reader as well. Many of these students would feel that a true American has no difficulty speaking English, since Jimmy Carter is indeed the best example of an American in this SAT essay. Instead, they would feel that they are being too old-fashioned, and when talking about something like Jimmy Carter, they feel as if they are trying to be hip, but the average reader, who could write like Carter, would not be able to.To call the essay a waste of time, is not even close to the truth, as this may be the ultimate answer for any SAT essay, especially since the Arctic Wildlife exam only requires an English composition. It is also definitely not an essay that should be used on a college application. This SAT essay, however, is a lot better than the essay written by students who are trying to impress their professors with the amount of grammar they have written. With Jimmy Carter's Arctic Wildlif e, there are only a few mistakes, and he also makes sure to use the correct punctuation, and punctuation is important when writing. If you are serious about getting into college, this is not a chance you want to miss, as this is an overall opinion, and not a grade point average. Nonetheless, this is one example of a great SAT essay, which is more accurate than some of the others, even those with more awkward grammar.
